Questions about making an appointment

Do I have to take my e-card with me to the appointment?

Yes, the e-card is required for all examinations on health insurance.

No e-card is required for purely private services. These include the H2 breath test, nutritional advice, the ALEX test, acupuncture, the pediatric pulmonology examination and the running provocation test.

Please note, however, that private services (e.g. H2 breath test) may also be performed together with other services (e.g. doctor's consultation, blood test etc.), which would be covered by the health insurance and for which the e-card (and a referral slip) would therefore be required again. To be on the safe side, please bring your e-card (and a valid referral from your general practitioner or specialist) with you to your appointment. In addition, there are also private services (e.g. test for histamine intolerance, coeliac disease screening) which are only offered in combination with other services (e.g. consultation, blood test, etc.) and which would be covered by health insurance and for which you would therefore need an e-card (and a referral slip). Therefore, please bring your e-card and a valid referral form (from your general practitioner or specialist) to these appointments.

How long can the transfer be used?

Please bring your e-card and your valid referral form with you to the appointment so that your insurance company (ÖGK, SVS, BVAEB,...) will cover the corresponding costs. If you do not bring a referral slip to the appointment, the Allergy Center Vienna West will not be able to bill the relevant social insurance and the services provided will have to be billed privately.

You will receive the referral slip from your general practitioner or specialist.

The referral itself is actually only valid for the quarter in which it was issued (applies to all health insurance funds, except the BVAEB, which is only valid for one month). This means that the appointment must take place in the same quarter in which the referral was issued.

However, due to the long waiting time for an appointment, we currently accept referral slips that are up to 6 months old. For example, if your appointment is on Sept. 10, the referral must have been issued between April and September; if your appointment is on Oct. 2, the referral must have been issued between May and October.

No referral slip is required for purely private services. These include the H2 breath test, nutritional advice, the ALEX test, acupuncture, the pediatric pulmonology examination and the running provocation test. Please note that certain private services (e.g. H2 breath test) are also carried out together with other services (e.g. doctor's consultation, blood tests, etc.) that would be covered by health insurance and for which a referral slip and e-card would therefore be required. To be on the safe side, please bring your e-card and a valid referral slip (from your general practitioner or specialist) with you to your appointment.

In addition, there are certain private services (e.g. test for histamine intolerance, coeliac disease screening) which are only offered in conjunction with other services (e.g. consultation, blood test, etc.) and which would be covered by health insurance and for which a referral slip and e-card would therefore be required. Therefore, please bring your e-card and a valid referral form (from your general practitioner or specialist) to these appointments.

Can the private benefits be submitted to social insurance?

Please enquire with your local social security office.

Are there earlier appointments by telephone than shown in the online calendar?

No, you can see all available dates online.

Can you put me on the waiting list?

No, we do not keep waiting lists.

I have an emergency and need an appointment

For emergencies, please call the emergency doctor on 144 or contact the nearest hospital emergency department.

Do you have parking facilities?

We don't have any private parking spaces, but it's usually easy to find a parking space on Hütteldorferstraße and in the surrounding alleyways

Where can I get a short-term parking permit?

U3 subway station Schweglerstraße, or with the streetcar line 49 station Huglgasse, or with the bus 12A station Huglgasse.

What is my patient number?

You will find the number on the card you were given when you registered and with which you were called via the screen. You will also find it on the top right of your report.

Can I get an appointment more quickly as a private patient?

No, private patients are not given preferential treatment compared to those with statutory health insurance.

Why do you have to wait so long for an appointment?

We are experts in the field of allergology and are therefore in high demand. Of course, we can only offer as many appointments as there are staff available on site, especially as we want to take enough time for our patients and refuse to look after patients "every minute". However, you can be sure that we will do everything possible to offer as many appointments as possible.

By when do I have to cancel my appointment at the latest?

Please contact us as early as possible to reschedule or cancel the appointment so that other patients can still attend the free appointment. Otherwise you will deprive another person of the opportunity to provide prompt care. Please understand that if you do not keep your appointment and do not cancel within 24 hours before the appointment, we will have to charge you a penalty of 80 euros.

Why do I need a referral even if I pay privately for certain tests such as the H2 breath test, the test for histamine&DAO or the celiac disease screening?

No referral slip is required for purely private services. These include the H2 breath test, nutritional advice, ALEX test, acupuncture, pediatric pulmonology examination, walking provocation test and coeliac disease screening.

Please note, however, that private services (e.g. H2 breath test) may also be performed together with other services (e.g. doctor's consultation, blood tests, etc.), which are covered by health insurance and therefore require a referral slip and your e-card. What exactly should be written on the transfer?

In addition to a specific diagnosis, the following text would be very helpful for us: "Specialist allergy, allergy test requested"

Questions about the preparations for the investigations

Can I drink coffee with soy milk before the H2 breath test?

Yes, but coffee is only allowed the day before and only until 10 a.m., without milk. After that no more. Please refer to our information sheet on the H2 breath test with all the important information on preparing for the test.

Can probiotics be taken before the test?

No, please stop one week before the test. Please refer to our information sheet on the H2 breath test with all the important information on preparing for the test.

Questions about the examinations and tests

How much time should I allow for the examination?

The average length of stay at the Allergy Center (from the time of your appointment) is approximately 1 hour.

How long do the findings take?

The average waiting time for your results is 3 weeks.

I am pregnant, can I have an allergy test?

The medical history interview and blood sampling are possible, all other tests are not carried out.

Can I drink tap water on the H2 breath test day?

Yes, but max. 1 glass.

Can lactose and fructose be tested on the same day?

No, unfortunately this is not possible. Only one test (lactose or fructose or sorbitol or glucose) can take place per day.

Allergy test "bee, wasp,..." useful even without previous sting?

In principle, allergy testing makes no sense for prospective beekeepers if there have been no stings and no symptoms. If someone develops severe allergic reactions to insect bites that go beyond a purely local skin reaction (e.g. rash, breathing difficulties, circulatory problems, etc.), then allergy testing is advisable. The consequence could be the issue of an emergency kit or the start of allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT). However, a purely positive allergy test (so-called sensitization) without any previous reactions to insect stings is not meaningful, as it does not allow a prognosis regarding the next sting. Even in the case of a purely local reaction (i.e. increased swelling in the area of the sting), testing is not yet necessary, as it (with or without a positive allergy test) does not represent an increased risk of a systemic reaction of the body (i.e. circulation, breathing, etc.) at the next sting. Exceptions to this are patients with repeated strong local reactions and frequent sting events that significantly restrict their quality of life. Here, allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) can also be considered following a positive allergy test.
