Procedure of the examinations

The main task in allergy diagnostics is taking the patient’s medical history. Only by precisely recording the symptoms and all accompanying circumstances is it possible to identify the causes of allergic diseases and plan further tests and therapies for the patient.

Important

Making an appointment

Please make your appointment online or by telephone. Normally, please select "initial examination" or "check-up" as the appointment type. And please keep your appointment on time (after 15 minutes late, a new appointment may have to be made if all the doctors present are busy with punctual patients and there are simply no more free doctors). Unfortunately, we cannot process appointment requests by e-mail.

We offer a range of allergological tests, which are usually are paid for by the statutory social insurance providers (ÖGK, SVS, BVAEB,...). In addition, we can also offer numerous examinations as private services and also register you as a private patient.

1
Preparations for the investigations

When you make an appointment, you will also receive information on how to prepare for the examinations. Either online (before and after you have booked an appointment) or verbally over the phone by our staff. Please adhere strictly to the instructions for your appointment. If you do not prepare and implement the points mentioned correctly, there is a possibility that the test cannot be carried out on the day of the examination and will still have to be charged. And if possible, please stop taking allergy medication (antihistamine tablets, drops, juices) 3 days before your appointment, if your state of health permits.

2
E-card & referral slip

Please bring your e-card and your valid referral form with you to your appointment so that your health insurance provider (ÖGK, SVS, BVAEB,...) will cover the costs. If you do not bring a referral slip to the appointment, the Allergy Center Vienna West will not be able to bill your statutory social insurance and the services provided will have to be billed privately.

No referral slip is required for purely private services. These include the H2 breath test, nutritional advice, the ALEX test, acupuncture, the pediatric pulmonology examination and the running provocation test.

3
Registration desk

On the day of your appointment, our administrative assistants at the registration desk will first take or update your personal details (e.g. address, cell phone number, e-mail address). You must also specify who should receive the findings and how (you as the patient and by post or online for download, or the referring doctor). You must then sign the data protection consent form and, if necessary, show the referral slip. To save waiting times, we recommend that you download the declaration of consent from our website before your appointment and fill it out and bring it with you.

4
Doctor's consultation

You will then be called by your attending physician (please note the screens in the waiting rooms), who will conduct an introductory consultation with you to clarify your symptoms.

5
Investigations

Subsequently, the respective discussed examinations will be carried out. In the course of this, you will usually have to see our surgery assistants in room 10 after the consultation for the tests and blood sample. Certain tests(H2 breath test, epicutaneous test, etc.) are carried out at an additional appointment.

6
Doctor's consultation

At the end, there will be a final consultation with the doctor. You will be informed immediately of the initial examination results (with the exception of blood tests) and a treatment plan will be drawn up.

7
Findings

The final report (after completion of all tests and, if applicable, with the results of any blood tests carried out) will be sent to you by post or made available to download online via our findings portal. It usually takes 3-4 weeks to prepare the report.

8
Therapy

We offer a wide range of treatment options. There is symptomatic drug therapy (usually with antihistamines or local steroids), allergen avoidance (correct vacation planning, protective measures such as pollen filters, pollen screens, etc.) and specific immunotherapy. Acupuncture according to TCM Traditional Chinese Medicine and nutritional advice round off the comprehensive range of services.
